Beyond Brut: how untreated oak defines contemporary interiors
A field note on the resurgence of wabi-sabi in Milan's design scene.
EDITORIAL · OBJECTS FOR ENDURING SPACES
Hand-cast bronze, untreated oak, and cold-pressed limestone crafted for spaces built to endure. Each piece is made to order in our atelier in northern Italy.
THE CRAFT
Bronze ages naturally. Oak moves with the seasons. Limestone carries quarry veining. We let each material speak at its own pace.
Each commission is modelled in CAD, prototyped in our workshop, then produced in small batches by our craftspeople in Verona.
We specify live-edge oak, solid bronze, and hand-pressed limestone. No veneers, no composites, no planned obsolescence.
Atelier Zero understands that modern minimalism isn't about emptiness — it's about selecting each element with absolute precision. Their bronze lever handles are the only hardware I specify for residential towers.
MATERIAL FOCUS
Each block is quarried by hand, then split and pressed to a 12mm thickness. The result carries the fossilised strata of 200-million-year-old seabed — unrepeated, unrefined.
